Probably the club’s shortest ever player, Dave made his debut at Oxford in June 2008 and joined the regular ranks the following season, notching his first goal for the club against Cambridge on the plastic at Westfield. There was a moment of concern at Dave’s first Worldnet, as he went to retrieve a ball from some long grass, but happily he was able to find his way out. If his size is a worry, his commitment to the cause is not, and he had a fantastic tournament for the Vets at Worldnet 2011.

What was the first WFC game you went to and what can you remember about it?
Oxford, I think, in the 1990s and I remember such luminaries as tricky Trevor Putney and a very odd triangle haircut on a teenage Bruce Dyer. I was standing on the sadly no more family terrace and remember winning 6 packets of walkers crisps with those weird blue envelopes you used to get in the packets, life couldn’t get better than that!.

Finest ever WFC memory
One of two games against Bolton. The 4-3 Gary Porter hatrick game simply for atmosphere and sheer ballsyness of the come back, or of course the first of the play off wins with Nicky Wright’s epic strike. A sunny day 2 great goals and the ambiance of old Wembley!

Worst away trip and why
Hull away in the play offs, it’s a hell hole, we got gubbed and Richard Lee had an utter utter stinker. Simply horrific.

WIFC playing highlight
My first WorldNET was memorable though ultimately frustrating, or MK dons away where I got to mark someone I have reffed for years and spent a very enjoyable second half booting him in the air, admittedly not really in the spirit of things but still shook hands after and was a good game!

Favourite WIFC moment
Playing at Vicarage Road in a Yellows v Reds game, whilst I’m not sure I have the ability to do the place justice, the whole day was a life long dream and will stick in the memory.

All-time favourite Watford player
Simply for his never say die attitude and doggedness to make the most of his ultimately limited talent has to be Sir Thomas of Mooney.

As if knowing Daz, Fincham, Stocksy and Mowen wasn’t hard enough, Chris even has the misfortune to sit near them at Watford games. Worse still, he’s now been unlucky enough to play football with them since joining the club in 2006. Chris settled in brilliantly and became a key player since an impressive debut at Cambridge and a first goal in his next game, against AFC Wimbledon. With his hanky tucked into his shorts, Chris’ all action midfield displays won him the Best Newcomer award in his debut year. He added Player of the Season awards in 2007/08 and 2008/09, and also does a mean Shane McGowan, as his song at his debut WorldNET testified.

Wazza has made quite an impact on WIFC since joining, both on and off the pitch. Having started WIFC life as a winger, Wazza’s now employed up front where on his day, he is a handful for opposition defences. Off the pitch, he did sterling work while running WIFC’s successful pontoon competition, and the speedy acquisition of nicknames leaves the humble visitor to this site in little doubt about his swift integration into the team banter. Wazza is also DJ on Kiss FM, though good taste in music rules out most of his team-mates listening.

Sweden’s finest, and a Watford fan since following the team on Swedish TV in the 1980’s, Jerker made his WIFC bow on a visit in 1999. He then returned to the fold regularly in 2005 while studying in London. Now back in Sweden with a young family, Jerker flies back in for the odd game and WorldNET, memorably completing a series of stag do challenges there in 2009. Just like his fellow countrymen, Jerker goes about his defending business in a cool, unflustered manner and showed his class to roll back the years with an excellent Worldnet in 2011, despite not having kicked a ball in 18 months, and he’s been a regular fixture for the Vets each summer.

What was the first WFC game you went to and what can you remember about it?
Watford – Sunderland 3-3, 2 April 1996. Aside from being 17 and let abroad without my parents for the first time, I remember being somewhat shocked at the low standard of football in the first half and excited about the Mooney inspired comeback in the second.

Nickname – Lozza

Laurence joined WIFC in 2006 after replying to an ad on Blind, Stupid and Desperate, and become a regular member of the squad, looking equally at home on both flanks. Lozza regularly completed a ginger left side of the team with his long-distance relation Matt, and also memorably embraced WIFC’s darker side, being one of the main players in Dundon’s gang at the Cage during his first Worldnet. A key player in the run to the Worldnet Final in 2008, Lozza also graced the Vets team on their Worldnet debut in 2010 and has become a regular at the end of season shindig, marking his 100th appearance for the club with a goal in the blues v blacks match on the eve of WorldNet 2021.

What was the first WFC game you went to and what can you remember about it?
Jamaica v Watford pre-season tour early 80’s and don’t remember much.  First competitive match was Watford v Blackburn playoff second leg – cigar smoke and tension.

Finest ever WFC memory
Celebrations squashed into the Vic end when David Holdsworth scored the night we beat then Champions Leeds with Cantona et al in 1992.  I still miss terracing.

Worst away trip and why
Norwich away 2002, went with some Norwich mates and was confident before the game but then found out we had depleted side, ended up losing 4-0, had Robbo and Foley sent off, the latter being cheered off by our own supportes – all in all humiliating on several levels.

WIFC playing highlight
Playing every game on the Sunday of Wordnet 2008 – I felt as knackered when I ran a marathon, but with the additional hinderance of two nights significant alchohol intake.

When I entered the changing rooms on the morning of my debut the shirts were hung up on the pegs and I thought it must be quite a serious team.  I soon realised my mistake after going out and scoring twice.

Long serving Stocksy put himself back on the map by returning to the fold during 2004, bringing his traditional committed displays on the right hand side with him and finally clocked up his century of appearances for the club in 2009. Stocksy made his debut long ago, at Leeds in 1998 and once scored with his knob in an away game at Bradford, which is fitting when one thinks of his song that try as he might, he just can’t shake off. Altogether now… Andy Stocks, Andy Stocks, Andy Andy Stocks…..

Another recruit from the Glory Horns message board, Mark finally joined the regular squad during the 2009/10 season, having clocked up a number of appearances at Worldnet since making his debut in the run up to the 2005 tournament. A number of serious injuries and Sunday morning football commitments have hampered Mark over the years, who is also a very handy goalkeeper. Wherever he plays, Mark can always be relied on for committed efforts, such as the time we stuck him in a luggage rack on a coach in Belgium.

Mat was introduced to WIFC by Sterry and Mathers following the “Buy Back the Vic” match in 2003 and made his bow in that year’s Furry Cup. Since then, it’s been a non-stop barrage from the verbose Ball, who picked up the Managers Player of the Year award in 2005. Mat also played for the England IFA side against Scotland at Worldnet 2007. A hugely successful four years as club treasurer also gave him the opportunity to use his verbal talents to the full, and he took on the role of manager from 2008-11, securing the club’s 5th consecutive top ten finish in the league, an IFA Cup Semi Final and a trophy, the Stevenage Tournament, in his first season.

The enigmatic Ainsley netted three own goals during his early days with the club, and having finally started to rectify that with a ripper during the West London Cup in 2005, he finally got back into credit during the 2007/08 season. Still going strong as he hurtles through his 40’s, Matt has also managed to build a fairly solid reputation for arse-wittery over the years, which is mainly down to the fact that he can always be relied on to drink his body-weight in booze on every WIFC trip. Keep him away from sambuca and straws, and don’t take up his invites for a punching competition.

FA Cup game v Harlow Town in 1980. I don’t remember much about it but found it on YouTube and apparently we won 4-3! Ahh, the magic of the cup!
